Shrewsbury Town is set to face Tranmere Rovers in their League Two opener this weekend. The team's impressive performance in the Carabao Cup against Salford City has given manager Gavin Cowan little reason to make wholesale changes. The defense looked solid, while the midfield pairing worked well and the wide players provided plenty of threat. Goalkeeper Will Brook produced penalty heroics to help send Town through, and it would be a surprise to see too many alterations. The team's attack, led by Josh Davison and George Lloyd, also showed promise. However, Joe Gbode could come into contention for a starting berth. For Davison in particular, Saturday's trip carries added significance as he prepares to face his former club. He will be keen to get his name on the scoresheet against Tranmere. Cowan will, however, have to make at least one change following Sam Stubbs' red card against Salford. His second yellow of the game means he will serve a one-match suspension. Luca Hoole looks the obvious candidate to fill the void, potentially allowing Town to maintain the shape and balance that served them so well last weekend. The team's next fixture is vs Oldham (away, 2027-02-27) (8th in the table).
