Shrewsbury Town's Cup Opponent Gets a Boost

Shrewsbury Town's cup opponent Salford City's Will Aimson returns after successful appeal against his red card in their Carabao Cup match. Aimson was initially sent off for violent conduct during the match against Shrewsbury Town last weekend.

The FA has confirmed that Aimson's red card has been overturned. The defender was sent off after a heated exchange between members of Shrewsbury's staff and players and Salford men near the dugout. Tensions spilled over, and after discussions with the fourth official, Aimson was shown a straight red card.

Why It Matters for Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury Town went on to win the enthralling cup tie in a dramatic penalty shoot-out. Town were themselves unhappy with Stubbs' second yellow card for a firm challenge in the second half. However, clubs are unable to appeal an individual yellow card or a dismissal resulting from two yellow cards.

Aimson will now be available for Salford's trip to Barnet in League Two this weekend, while Shrewsbury visit Tranmere Rovers for their league opener. Town will meet Salford again at the Croud Meadow on Saturday, August 29.

Next fixture: vs Oldham (away, 2027-02-27) (8th in the table).
