Eight former Shrewsbury Town players, including ex-goalkeeper Jamal Blackman, are taking part in the Professional Footballers’ Association’s (PFA) free-agent camp as they search for new clubs. The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who spent a short stint with the Salop in 2024, is among the group seeking fresh opportunities.
Blackman is joined by seven other former Shrewsbury stars, including last season’s captain John Marquis and Anthony Scully. Marquis has been part of the PFA camp for seven weeks and recently scored in a friendly against QPR. The other ex-Shrewsbury players at the camp are defenders James Bolton, Josh Emmanuel, and Sam Hart, as well as forwards Fejiri Okenabirhie and Vadaine Oliver.
The PFA free-agent camp is designed to help out-of-contract players find new clubs. The programme combines training, friendly matches, and wellbeing support. This is the seventh week of the initiative, with 44 free agents involved, including the eight former Shrewsbury players.
Shrewsbury Town are currently preparing for their next fixture, an away game against Oldham on 27 February 2027, where they sit 8th in the League Two table. Meanwhile, their former players continue their search for new clubs through the PFA camp.
