Shrewsbury's softball team secured a spot in the Division 1 quarterfinals with a 10-3 victory over Chelmsford. Alex Taupier, a senior committed to play softball at Westfield State, was nervous before the game, but she played through and hit a two-run double in the third inning to give Shrewsbury the lead. The Colonials (18-4) will host 12th-seeded Franklin (11-11) Sunday at 3 p.m. Taupier (3 for 4, 3 RBIs) was not the only Shrewsbury player to find success at the plate. All of the middle-of-the-order Shrewsbury bats found success, including sophomore Julia Azzarone, who had two triples, and senior Emma Ellis, who walked three times. Senior Maddie Bentley went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. The choice of pitcher was sophomore Lyla Rose, who struck out 12. "It's trusting the defense behind me," said Rose. "I know that they're there for me, so I can throw my pitches. It's important to have that trust," added Rose. "She's fire on the mound," said coach Jamie Millett Schaeffer. "... She set the tone," added Millett Schaeffer.
