SHREWSBURY, Mo. – A Shrewsbury officer was struck and injured Monday by a vehicle tied to an armed robbery at a U.S. Post Office location just moments before, police say. The officer was struck around 5:15 p.m. Monday, shortly after an armed robbery at the U.S. Post Office in the 7200 block of Watson Road. According to the Shrewsbury Police Department, based on preliminary findings, the officer was unaware that the robbery had been reported when he attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. That vehicle, police say, fled the scene of an armed robbery at the Watson Road Post Office. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver shifted the car into reverse and struck the officer. The officer first landed on his patrol car, then onto the pavement upon impact. Immediately after, the suspect vehicle fled the scene. A second Shrewsbury officer, who witnessed the incident, pursued the suspect vehicle for a time but lost track of it after the driver crossed into Illinois. The injured officer was treated for minor injuries at a hospital. Meanwhile, the Shrewsbury Police Department and U.S. Postal Inspectors Office are actively investigating the robbery and collision. No arrests have been reported as of Tuesday afternoon. Anyone who has information is asked to contact Shrewsbury police at 314-647-5656 and reference Report #26-427.
