Roland Wycherley has called for continued patience from Shrewsbury Town fans as the sale of the League Two club progresses. The outgoing owner, who has run the Salop club for three decades, confirmed a takeover by a four-man American consortium is nearing its conclusion after a six-month process.

The 85-year-old issued an open letter stating the group, which includes former Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel alongside Scott Davidson, Will Dotson and Craig Graham, has passed all necessary EFL and independent regulator checks. An initial letter of intent was exchanged on 16 March and Wycherley expects the deal to be settled before Christmas. "Let me be honest with you. No-one knows for certain what a buyer will do once they've taken control of a club," Wycherley said.

He acknowledged the uncertainty fans feel during a period of transition on and off the pitch. Shrewsbury's recent form has been mixed, taking seven points from their first seven matches to sit 18th in the standings. The team's goal minutes show a pattern of late resilience, with George Lloyd's equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Crewe Alexandra coming in the 78th minute, a game that followed a 2-0 home win over Northampton Town where both goals were scored in the second half. This leaves the side looking to build consistency in a challenging schedule where seven of its first ten league fixtures are away from home.

Wycherley stressed that a competitive budget has been provided for this season and will remain in place for the next campaign if the takeover process extends. The club made 11 new signings over the summer, significantly reshaping the squad. In his letter, the long-serving owner sought to connect with the supporter base, drawing on his deep history. "I have been at this football club for 30 years." he stated.

The consortium had wished to remain private until receiving formal approval from the football authorities. With due diligence complete, the focus now shifts to finalising the agreement and planning for the club's future under new ownership. The immediate footballing priority is the visit of Colchester United to Montgomery Waters Meadow this weekend, a match where the team will hope to improve its stats and climb the table as the ownership situation resolves.
