Shrewsbury Town's proposed takeover by a United States-led consortium has moved significantly closer after two key figures passed the English Football League's owners' and directors' test. Craig Graham and Will Dotson, both directors at Scottish club The Spartans, have been cleared by the relevant governing bodies, a key step in the acquisition process.
Graham, a former KPMG partner and MBE, serves as chairman of The Spartans, while Dotson is a fellow director. Their approval follows that of consortium spearhead Scott Davidson, the majority shareholder of The Spartans, and former US international goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who were cleared earlier. Friedel's formal appointment as a director remains subject to final administrative sign-offs.
This regulatory progress brings the club to the brink of a historic change in ownership, set to end Roland Wycherley's three-decade tenure as chairman. Final formalities regarding cross-border club associations are still being processed.
"Shrewsbury Town has confirmed that further updates will be shared with fans as soon as additional milestones are reached in the acquisition process," the club said.
The potential change comes as the first team sits 18th in League Two with six points from six games, having won two and lost four. Their recent form is mixed, with a 2-0 home win over Northampton last week followed by three defeats in the previous four matches. The club's current squad details are available on our squad page.
With the ownership transition advancing, the focus now shifts to completing the final administrative steps to officially usher in the new era at the Croud Meadow.
