Hamstring injury sidelines veteran
Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jack Price is expected to be out for up to two months after sustaining a hamstring injury during a pre-season friendly against Everton Under-21s. The 33-year-old returned to his hometown club as a free agent this summer.
Manager’s assessment
Boss Gavin Cowan told reporters that the injury could be anywhere from a month to two, depending on the extent. He added that the scan last week was not as positive as hoped and that the injury is “very obscure”, requiring a second scan.
Impact on the squad
Price’s absence will leave the club without a veteran presence in midfield for the foreseeable future. Cowan said the club cannot afford to sign a replacement during the current transfer window. He highlighted the existing midfield options - Will Gray, Tom Sang, Isaac England and Jay Turner-Cooke - as suitable for the team’s style.
Price’s reaction
The midfielder was devastated by the setback, having dreamed of returning to Shrewsbury. He expressed a strong desire to get back on the pitch and help the squad, but Cowan noted that Price’s experience is still valuable beyond just playing time.
Looking ahead
Cowan emphasised that the club will focus on letting the injury settle and will not rush a return. The team will rely on its current midfield roster while Price works through rehabilitation.
