Transfer-List Status

Gavin Cowan admitted that Shrewsbury Town’s transfer-list headache has become more complicated than anticipated. Four players were made available for transfer at the start of the summer: Sam Clucas, Tom Anderson, Ricardo Dinanga and Callum Stewart. Dinanga and Stewart have since joined other clubs on short-term loan deals, but Clucas and Anderson remain with the club.

Player Situations

Clucas and Anderson signed two-year deals with Shrewsbury Town last summer, keeping them on the books until the end of the 2026/27 season. Veteran former Premier League midfielder Sam Clucas was not involved in the club’s pre-season preparations, while defender Tom Anderson stayed involved and was on the bench for the match against Tranmere Rovers last weekend.

Manager’s Perspective

Asked about interest in the two remaining players, Cowan said: “It’s not been easy. You’d like it to be a little bit more fluent.” He explained that earlier conversations with the players had been positive, with the understanding that they were not part of the club’s plans and wanted to move on. However, agents have complicated the process, “making things difficult and the focus on football is lost a little bit.”

Cowan added that he has shaped the squad around conversations with players about their future at the club. “They understand that they’re not in the plans, they do want to move on,” he said, noting that the situation has dragged out longer than expected.

Future Plans

Shrewsbury Town are still searching for further recruits to strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes. Cowan said that outgoings would be ideal to allow more players to come in. “Ideally, yes,” he said. “I think it’s what we set out before.” He added that the club is in a position to bring people in and that everyone is working hard to make the moves happen.

The manager’s candid admission shows the club’s need to resolve the transfer-list situation swiftly to free up space for new signings and maintain squad harmony before the window shuts.
