Shrewsbury Town have signed Lino Sousa and Kian McMahon-Brown on season-long loans from Aston Villa and Burnley respectively, the club confirmed Sounds. The deals were finalised in August 2026 as Shrewsbury aim to strengthen their squad for the ongoing League Two season.

Lino Sousa is a 21-year-old defender who began his youth career at West Bromwich Albion before moving to Arsenal in 2022. He joined Aston Villa two years later in 2024 and has since gained experience through loan spells at Plymouth, Bristol Rovers, and Rotherham. Sousa made 29 appearances for Bristol Rovers during his time there and is an England youth international. Gavin Cowan praised the signing, saying: "Lino is a young man with huge potential."

Kian McMahon-Brown is an 18-year-old forward who represented the Republic of Ireland at the Under-17 World Cup last year. He was named Burnley's Under-21 academy player of the last season after scoring 11 goals for their Under-21 side. McMahon-Brown signed a two-year deal with Burnley this summer before moving to Shrewsbury on loan. Gavin Cowan added: "Kian is a really exciting player."

Shrewsbury Town currently sit 22nd in League Two with 3 points from 4 games, recording 1 win, 0 draws, and 3 losses. Their recent form reads LWLL, having scored just 2 goals and conceded 8, leaving them with a goal difference of -6. The club are 6 points behind league leaders Bristol Rovers. These loans provide immediate depth as Shrewsbury look to improve their standing, with fans able to track progress via the standings page.

Both players joined Shrewsbury on season-long agreements, meaning they will be available for the remainder of the 2026-27 campaign unless recalled. Sousa brings defensive versatility from his time in the EFL, while McMahon-Brown offers youthful energy and goal threat from Burnley's academy. The club encouraged supporters to follow updates through BBC Sounds, where pre-match, post-match, and topical Salop content is regularly featured. For more on the squad, visit the squad page.

Shrewsbury Town's next fixture is against Accrington Stanley on Saturday 12 September 2026, where Sousa and McMahon-Brown could make their debuts depending on fitness and selection.
