Shrewsbury Town have announced that versatile defender Josh Ruffels has signed a new contract with the club. The 32-year-old joined Salop as a free agent in October 2025 and then signed a contract extension in January that tied him to the club until the end of the 2025-26 campaign. He went on to make 32 appearances across all competitions last season. Ruffels' performances attracted interest from several other clubs, but the former Huddersfield Town player has now committed his future to the League Two club. Manager Gavin Cowan told the club's website that he was pleased to retain the experienced player as he continues to build his squad. "When we came into the club, we were looking for players with maturity, dependable players and players with a high football IQ," Cowan said. "When you look at Josh Ruffels, you look at the games he played in and the games he missed, and he made a massive difference for us. "Josh has been sought after, but what's really flattering is that he's seen the way we've worked since coming in."
