Shrewsbury boss Gavin Cowan has been named League Two manager of the month for February. He steered his side to five straight wins, taking them well clear of the relegation zone.

What happened?

Cowan replaced Michael Appleton at the end of January with Salop two points above the drop zone. He masterminded a superb turnaround in results, beating Barrow, Swindon Town, and Notts County.

Why it matters for Shrewsbury

The wins have given Shrewsbury a 13-point cushion above the bottom two. Cowan said he was 'really privileged' to receive the award, adding it was 'a reflection of a lot of hard work and energy invested by all staff and players'.
