Shrewsbury have signed full-back Josh Ruffels on a free transfer. The 31-year-old defender was a free agent after leaving Huddersfield Town at the end of last season.
What does this signing mean for Shrewsbury?
Ruffels has been training with Shrewsbury over the past few weeks and has now signed a contract with the League Two club. He will bring a lot of quality to the team, according to manager Michael Appleton.
Why is this signing important?
Appleton told BBC Radio Shropshire that Ruffels is reliable and can play in numerous positions. Ruffels has made more than 250 appearances for Oxford United and won promotion from League Two under Appleton in 2015-16. He then moved to Huddersfield Town in July 2021 and spent two seasons in the Championship before the team's relegation in 2023.
What's next for Shrewsbury?
As of the end of the 2025-2026 season, Shrewsbury stands 19th in League Two, with 49 points from 46 games, and a recent form of LDDWL. Their last result was a 1-0 loss to Gillingham on May 2, 2026. | Category | Stat | | League Standing | 19th | | Points | 49 | | Recent Form | LDDWL |
