Two More Signings on the Horizon
Shrewsbury Town manager Gavin Cowan has confirmed that the club will bring in at least two more players before the transfer window closes. The Welsh club, which has already signed eight recruits this summer, is hoping to complete a hat‑trick of signings if it can first move two or three players out.
Cowan said, “We will definitely bring in another two. We will. It’s just whether we get three. I would be over the moon to get two in, but three would be ideal.” The manager added that the club’s ability to bring in a third signing will depend on whether it can offload two or three players.
Transfer‑Fee Restriction Forces Loans and Free‑Agents
Shrewsbury remain unable to pay a transfer fee for a player this summer as they operate under a transfer‑fee restriction. That leaves loans and free‑agent signings as Town’s available options as Cowan looks to further strengthen his squad. Bringing in another forward has been identified as a priority for the Town boss as he looks to bolster his options and improve on last season’s goalscoring record.
Off‑Market Players Await New Clubs
Town are also looking to move on their two remaining transfer‑listed players yet to find new clubs – defender Tom Anderson and midfielder Sam Clucas. “For Sam and Tom, it’s a continuous thing that they’ll be looking after themselves at the moment,” Cowan added. “We’ve made our stance very clear for a quarter of a year now. It’s three months down the line. Both of them were talking about they wanted to go and play football and they weren’t going to hold it up. We’ve built a squad and a team around that.”
Timing and Strategy
The club’s last arrival came more than a month ago, and the transfer window is set to close soon. Cowan’s plan is to secure at least two new faces, with a third possible if the pieces fall into place. The focus remains on loan and free‑agent options, especially a new striker to help the team’s offensive output.
Looking Ahead
With eight signings already on the books and a clear strategy for the remaining transfer‑listed players, Shrewsbury Town is poised to finish the summer window on a strong note. The club’s next moves will hinge on the successful exit of Tom Anderson and Sam Clucas and the availability of suitable loan or free‑agent targets.
