Shrewsbury Town have not given up on bringing back Iwan Morgan from Brentford. Gavin Cowan, the club’s manager, admitted he would “love” to reunite with the Wales youth international after the forward joined Brentford’s first-team squad in Portugal for pre-season. The League Two side remain under a transfer-fee embargo, so any move would have to be a loan.
What’s the latest on Iwan Morgan?
Morgan spent the second half of last season on loan at Shrewsbury and scored three goals in 18 appearances, helping the club avoid the drop in League Two. He impressed fans during his brief spell at Croud Meadow and remains under contract at Brentford. Cowan confirmed the club’s interest remains strong, but stressed that Morgan is still a Brentford player.
“He’s gone out to Portugal with them now as well, with the first team,” Cowan told the Shropshire Star. “So he’s also got his own agenda and his own future to be concerned about. If that can be with us, great. But as it stands at the moment, there’s no movement on that.”

Shrewsbury finished 19th in League Two last season with 49 points from 46 games, a tally that leaves them 38 points behind Bromley in the title race. Their recent form has been poor, with no wins in the last five matches and a 1-0 loss to Gillingham on 2 May 2026. Cowan is desperate to add attacking firepower and believes Morgan could help address that need.
“We’re looking at another striker, another 10 to come in,” Cowan said. “But equally, we need to balance the books. We’ve got a couple of lads that we’ve put on the transfer list. Those things are moving along.”

The window has been tough for Shrewsbury, with Cowan admitting it’s “really, really difficult” to land targets. He stressed the club is working hard to convince players that the club is the right destination. Salop are also offloading players to free up wages, with two already placed on the transfer list.
Cowan added: “It’s been a really tough window, in truth. We’re in every room, but there’s a lot of people in those rooms. So it’s very, very difficult.”
