Shrewsbury Town boss Gavin Cowan has given the latest injury updates on Jay Snook, Luca Hoole and George Lloyd after their 1-0 pre-season win over Everton Under-21s. The Salop side are preparing for the new League Two campaign after finishing 19th last season with 49 points (13W-10D-23L), scoring 42 goals and conceding 69 (-27 goal difference), ending 38 points behind leaders Bromley.

What happened to Jay Snook?

Young forward Jay Snook was forced off early in Shrewsbury’s home friendly against Everton U21s after feeling tightness in his hamstring. The 18-year-old, who signed a third-year scholarship this summer, started alongside new recruit Josh Davison but had to be substituted as a precaution. Cowan said: “Hopefully Jay Snook’s a little bit of precaution. He felt a hamstring. You can’t really take a risk with them. Pre-season’s all about being healthy.”

Updates on Hoole and Lloyd

Neither George Lloyd nor Luca Hoole featured in the Everton win after both picked up knocks in previous friendlies. Hoole suffered an ankle injury during the opening pre-season match at Stafford Rangers, while Lloyd was forced off midway through Sunday’s victory over FC Isle of Man. Cowan confirmed Lloyd will return to full training this week and should be available for selection, while Hoole could still be a couple of weeks away from making his comeback.

What comes next for Shrewsbury?

Shrewsbury’s pre-season form has been mixed, with their last five results reading LLDDD (most recent first), including a 1-0 loss to Gillingham in their final league game of the 2025-26 season. Cowan’s focus remains on getting his squad fully fit ahead of the new campaign, with the injury updates on Snook, Hoole and Lloyd key to their preparations.
