Shrewsbury Town manager Gavin Cowan has called for perspective after his side secured their second League Two win of the season. The 2-0 home victory over Northampton Town, with goals from Kian McMahon-Brown and Kevin Berkoe, lifted the club to 18th place on six points from six games. The team's current position in the standings reflects a start that has yielded two wins, one draw, and three defeats.

Cowan's comments come as the club handles discussions over a potential change of ownership. An American consortium led by Miami businessman Scott Davidson and including former Premier League goalkeeper Bradley Friedel is in talks with current chairman Roland Wycherley, who has owned the club for three decades. Cowan confirmed he has had only a brief introduction to the prospective buyers.

"Yeah, just a hello, just an introduction," Cowan said. He stressed that his primary concern remains the team's performance. "I take my orders from the chairman. So, the best thing for me to say is that I’ve got to stay out of that."

Focus on the pitch

Cowan's plea for perspective is rooted in the team's recent form. The victory over Northampton, which followed a 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town, provided a welcome clean sheet. Cowan praised his squad's resilience amid external noise and highlighted the need for continued defensive solidity as they build towards their next fixtures.

"Very pleasing for the players and for the staff," he said. "They deserve it, because they've stayed calm and they've trusted me." He pointed to the unity within his group as a significant positive.

With the win, Shrewsbury's recent run of results stands at two wins and three losses. The team's overall stats for the campaign show they have scored six goals while conceding eight. Next up is a trip to face Crewe Alexandra, a side that has drawn all four of its league games this season and remains unbeaten. Cowan acknowledged the challenge but reiterated his belief in his squad. His final message was a direct appeal to supporters for their backing.
