Shrewsbury Town have been handed a significant injury boost ahead of their season opener, with Luca Hoole and Jack Price both back in action. Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Salford City in the Carabao Cup, boss Gavin Cowan confirmed Hoole and Price had returned to training, along with Sam Stubbs, who missed the final pre-season outing with a 'niggle'. Asked if the trio were back in contention, Cowan said: 'Yes, all raring to go, all been in training. I think we'll just manage them in a little bit and they've only had a couple of days training. So, we might need to ease them in a little bit. They might potentially not be involved tomorrow, but certainly fit and raring to go moving forward.' Hoole has missed much of pre-season after suffering an ankle injury in Town's first friendly at Stafford Rangers, while Price had been sidelined by a heel problem. But both are now back on the grass and training with the squad, and Cowan confirmed there were no other fresh injury concerns. 'All good, yes,' he added. 'I think they're all just a bit like a coiled spring. They're champing at the bit. They're just desperate to get going and start showing what they're capable of. There's a quiet confidence in the group. Again, there's a lot of clarity on what we do when we play. We have a plan that we stick to, although it's fluent to make sure that we're able to adapt. But, I just I think they're like a coiled spring now. They want to feel the desire for competition. I think they're just desperate to get moving now.' Next fixture: vs Oldham (away, 2027-02-27) (8th in the table).
