Shrewsbury Town have secured the loan signing of young striker Kian McMahon-Brown from Burnley for the 2026-27 season. The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland youth international completed his move this week and trained with his new teammates on Monday.
McMahon-Brown arrives at a Shrewsbury side currently positioned 18th in League Two, having taken three points from their opening three matches. Their recent form reads WLL, with two goals scored and five conceded, leaving them four points behind early leaders Barnet. The young forward will wear the number 18 shirt as he aims to help improve those offensive numbers.
Kian McMahon-Brown explained that the move to Shrewsbury Town felt like the correct next step in his development. He described a lengthy process to finalise the loan but expressed clear satisfaction with the outcome. "It’s been a long process, but we got there in the end. I’m delighted to be here," McMahon-Brown said.
The teenager believes the club's style and the manager's vision align perfectly with his own game. He had a positive conversation with the Shrewsbury boss, who outlined how he sees the player fitting into the squad. McMahon-Brown feels the environment is right for him to transition into senior football after a prolific youth career.
McMahon-Brown brings a proven goalscoring record from his time in Burnley's academy. Last season, he netted 11 times for the Clarets' under-21 side and added another five goals for the under-18s. His performances were recognised with Burnley's academy player of the year award.
He describes his best position as a striker but is also comfortable operating as a false nine or in the number 10 role. This versatility offers Shrewsbury manager Paul Hurst additional options in attack. McMahon-Brown also brings international experience, having represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, including at the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The immediate task for McMahon-Brown is to earn his place in the Shrewsbury starting eleven. He acknowledges that the opportunity is now his to seize. "I feel like now it’s the right step to come and play senior football." he stated.
His summer included signing his first professional contract with Burnley and being part of their pre-season tour of the United States. That top-level exposure has prepared him for the challenge of League Two. He joins a Shrewsbury squad looking to climb the standings after a mixed start to the campaign.
Fans can track his progress and the team's upcoming matches on the club's fixtures page. McMahon-Brown's primary objective is clear: to translate his youth potential into consistent performances for Shrewsbury Town and contribute to the team's goal of moving up the table.
